May Day

Happy May Day to Everyone!

When I was a young girl, we made paper baskets from pretty paper, filled them with fresh flowers picked from our garden, hung them on the door knobs of our neighbors' homes, rang the doorbell, and then hid behind a tree to watch their surprised faces as they found the basket.

It was fun!

This basket is just for you....

Just imagine that I hung this flower filled basket on your door handle today......smile!

  1. What a pretty basket! I've never heard of that tradition before. Will try to remember it for next year.

    1. @Nicola: My mother was crazy for doing these things, she made growing up lots of fun! If you do a google search for "May Day", you'll find many places on the history, and making the baskets.

  2. I remember one May Day when I was a child (oh, so many years ago). I made my mother a May Day basket in school. It did not hang, so I put it on the porch and rang the door bell. There I was hiding and watching for Mom to be surprised, when out came my brother and as he stepped onto the porch his big ole foot landed right on my basket. I was so upset with him. I do enjoy reminiscing about childhood, most memories are much sweeter than this one.
One of my favorite things is finding a new blogger and joining her follower. It is so much fun to become a blogging friend and to watch your blog blossom and grow. Your newest follower, Connie :) Please accept my invitation to visit and to follow my blog, too. Have a wonderful day, and don't step on many bodies May baskets, LOL.

  3. Love it! I used to make a May Day basket every year for my mom and still either send her a card or flowers or something to let her know I'm thinking of her.
